Grid India Power System Awards (GIPSA)


Grid India Power System Award (GIPSA) outlines the initiative to recognize research excellence in power systems by rewarding Doctoral/Master research accomplishments in all the technical institutions offering PG in power systems and related fields in India.

This is a CSR activity of Grid India Power System Award(GIPSA) – a Government of India Enterprise. Grid India has associated with Foundation for Innovation & Technology Transfer (FITT-IIT Delhi), the industrial interface organisation at IIT Delhi for implementation of the CSR activity. This is the 12th edition of the award program wholly funded by Grid India. FITT-IIT Delhi will function as the nodal agency for implementation of this award program at national level.

Encourage students to engage in research endeavours within Power Systems and related fields.
Collection and dissemination of technologies for possible industry adoption.

AWARD CATEGORIES


Master category

  • 15 Awards will be presented in the Masters category
  • Cash Prize of Rs.40,000 will be awarded to each team/individual

Doctoral Category

  • 15 Awards will be presented in the doctoral category
  • Cash Prize of Rs.1,00,000/- will be awarded to each team/individual

The prime objective


Recognizing and acknowledging notable and recent innovative research achievements in power systems and their related fields across all technical institutions that provide postgraduate programs in power systems and related disciplines.

Grid India being a knowledge-based control centre organisation, encourages strengthening coordination with academia.

GRID INDIA ENCOURAGES RESEARCH IN THE FOLLOWING TOPICS RELATED TO THE FUNCTIONAL AREAS:


System Operation:


  • Low Frequency Oscillation (LFO) - Detection, Analysis and Mitigation
  • Stability Limits - angular, voltage
  • Transfer Capability Assessment for multi-area transfers
  • Collection and dissemination of technologies for possible industry adoption

Issues related to Markets:


  • Transmission Pricing
  • Ancillary Services
  • Imbalance Pricing
  • Market Auction Design

Renewables:


  • Renewable Integration & Storage from the view point of system operation such as forecasting, balancing requirements etc.

Tools:


  • Big Data Analytics- PMU Applications and Historical Data

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA & SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

  • Applicants interested in applying for GIPSA-2024 must meet the specific eligibility requirements:
    • Open to Indian Citizens Only.
    • Applications relevant to power systems and related fields are eligible to apply.
    • Entry is restricted to recently accomplished projects/research work/innovations.
    • For the master category, only those who have been awarded a degree in 2023 are eligible for participation.
    • For the doctoral category, those who have completed 3 years of the program or submitted their thesis or awarded degrees in 2023 are eligible for the award.
  • Guidelines for submitting the applications:
    • Applicants may submit as an individual and or in a team. (no upper cap for the team size).
    • Teams can consist of members from various disciplines and academic backgrounds. Faculty members are welcome to be a part of the team (limited to advisory, mentoring, and guidance roles only)
    • In case of IP involvement, the applicant/team has to take approval or furnish a no objection letter from principal advisor/co-inventors/research colleagues, if they are not part of the team.
    • The applicant will have to register on the portal and then apply for the award.
    • Applicants must furnish all the details with correct information.
    • Every applicant must submit a powerpoint presentation (not exceeding 10 slides) as per the given field in the portal.
